Trăim o perioadă de bogăție așa cum niciodată în istoria omenirii nu s-a mai întâlnit. Dacă până prin anul 1800 aproape toată populația pământului trăia sub ceea ce acum denumit pragul de sărăcie extremă – 1,90 $/zi, odată cu revoluția tehnologică, lucrurile au început să se schimbe. În 1990 36% trăiau în sărăcie extremă iar în 2015 10%. Se preconizează că sărăcia extremă va dispărea în următorii 15 – 20 ani ceea ce înseamnă că nu vor mai exista oameni care să moară de foame.
Deși noi în România suntem departe de ceea ce se întâmplă de țările din Africa sub-sahariană măcinate de războaie și sărăcie și beneficiem de probabil cea mai lungă perioadă din istorie de pace și prosperitate toată lumea se plânge de lipsuri și de viața grea. Bineînțeles că ar fi greșit să spunem că trăim într-o lume perfectă și că multe lucruri sunt departe de ceea ce noi numim normal. Dar la fel de greșit ar fi să nu observăm avansul societății românești și timpurile de pace și prosperitate pe care le trăim.
De-a lungul timpului oamenii erau fericiți dacă aveau mâncare îndestulătoare pentru toți membrii familiei și un acoperiș deasupra capului. Acum eu stau în casă încălzită la temperatura dorită fără a face nici cel mai mic efort pentru asta, și deschid frigiderul și îmi iau fructul exotic dorit produs în celălalt colț al lumii adus la mine în toiul iernii. Doar cu o mișcare din deget apare la robinet apă caldă sau rece după dorința mea iar cu dispozitivul din buzunar pot afla tot ce întâmplă în lume în timp real iar, dacă vreau, pot vorbi cu orice persoană din lume doar cu câteva mișcări de deget mare. Acesta este un lux la care străbunii mei nici măcar nu îndrăzneau să viseze.
Folosind tehnica de vizualizare negativă m-am gândit cum ar fi să nu am unul din luxurile cu care m-am obișnuit. De exemplu cum ar fi dacă nu aș mai avea acest laptop la care acum scriu. Nici eu nu sunt imun la lux și probabil aș fi nefericit. Stoicii spun că ar trebui să ajungem la o stare de autosuficiență și să fim mulțumiți așa cum suntem, indiferent care este starea noastră. Fericirea depinde de factori intrinseci, de cum ne modulăm dorințele, mult mai puțin de factori externi.
Dar tuturor le place luxul. Odată ce te obișnuiești cu un lux îți intră sub piele și este un nou normal al vieții tale, chiar dacă ești poate primul din strămoși care folosești acel lux. Poți să îți imaginezi viața fără smartphone sau fără televizor ?
Această dependență este specifică drogurilor. Probabil cu toții ați încercat cel puțin unul din drogurile existente pe piață care creează dependență: cafeaua, alcoolul, tutunul… Orice drog este un toxic. Într-adevăr creează o plăcere în noi atunci când îl consumăm dar trebuie să fim conștienți de puterea lui asupra noastră și de efectele negative pe care le produce asupra sănătății, sufletului și a finanțelor. Consum și eu 1-2 beri în weekend cu prietenii dar sunt conștient de toxicul care îl ingurgitez și de efectele negative pe care le are asupra corpului.
Luxul este un drog. Ai trecut de la 2 camere semidecomandate la 4 camere decomandate, probabil niciodată nu vei trece înapoi. Ai început să conduci mărci de lux gen Mercedes sau BMW probabil nimic sub acest nivel nu va fi bun pentru tine. Nu ai bani în cont pentru o mașină nouă ? Nici o problemă – băncile abia așteaptă să te împrumute – la dobânda la care vor face și ele un profit frumos.
Problema gravă apare, ca la orice drog, atunci când dependența este atât de puternică încât o persoană deja plină de datorii golește toate cardurile de credit pentru a-și satisface dorințele. Exact cum un alcoolist cu ciroză în ultimul stadiu se duce să mai cumpere încă o sticlă deși știe că îi va face rău, dar nu se poate abține.
Societatea și statul au rolul de a proteja populația de pericole mai mult sau mai puțin vizibile. De aceea există legi care interzic drogurile de mare risc, este interzisă reclama la tutun iar cea la alcool este permisă doar după ora 22. Eu cred că și la alte produse ar trebui create atenționări de genul: „Ceasul nostru îți va liniști nevoia de lux pentru o perioadă scurtă de timp. Există șansa ca după puțin timp să vă doriți alt produs. Consumul excesiv de produse dăunează grav finanțelor dumneavoastră.”
Acum eu nu spun că ar trebui să trăim toți precum călugării și să respingem orice gadget. Avansul tehnologic este ceea ce caracterizează societatea noastră iar abundența de produse la preț redus este tocmai rezultatul avansului tehnologic la care suntem martori. Problema este de poziția de pe care abordăm cumpărare de produse. La fel cum cumpăr în weekend 2 beri și le beau știind ce înseamnă pentru organismul meu sau fumez o dată un trabuc din curiozitate la fel cumpărarea de lux trebuie să fie o decizie calculată și informată asupra „riscurilor financiare la care te expui” pe termen lung.
